Get ready to run!
Although there is so much going on this weekend in and around Sacramento, I can only think about one thing- next weekend’s River City Run! This is an event that welcomes people of all ages and abilities, and proceeds help support sustainable living.
Online registration for this event ends on Wendesday, May 28th. I think the registration fee of $25 is pretty reasonable, and children under 6 run free. The race begins at Waterfront Park (next to the Old Schoolhouse) in Old Sacramento.
For more information about the event, refer to the official River City Run website: http://www.rivercityrun.org/RaceInfo.html
To register, you will need to visit this site: http://www.active.com/page/Event_Details.htm?event_id=1559446&assetId=a708d04a-32ef-442e-b1e6-e58e5e2a9130
If you aren’t in to running, but would instead prefer some great food and entertainment, then you should mark the Polynesian Cultural Family Festival on your calendar. The festival takes place on Saturday, May 31st from 11am to 4pm at the Centennial United Methodist Church. For more information you can call 916-452-4477. Admission is free, and a plate lunch will cost $10. This is a fabulous deal, and you don’t even have to leave the mainland to enjoy and celebrate Fijiian, Tongan, Samoan, and Hawaiian culture.
Enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend! Aloha!
Below is a YouTube video of traditional Hawaiian dance, as I learned it many years ago as a student. Hope this inspires a visit or two to the Polynesian Cultural Family Festival next Saturday.
