Welcome Summer!

Published by hawkinsm at 4:55 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Today is officially the first day of summer, and the longest day of the year! And it definitely feels like summer with temperatures in the triple digits! One great thing about hot summer days is warm summer nights.

I don’t know about you, but longer days and warmer nights mean swimming late in to the evening; stargazing in the middle of the night- no jacket required; and late night trips to the store for ice cream, or through a Starbuck’s drive-thru for coffee. My point is, summer days may be long and often annoyingly hot, but they also have many perks to them, and I hope you get a chance to enjoy the summer months, as they really do go by too quickly.

Last night I spent the evening in the company of my fiance, a cup of coffee, and our telescope. We were checking out the moon, the ultra bright planet of Jupiter, and a couple of what we call ’star clusters’. The sky has definitely changed a lot since January, when the nights were crisp and very clear. However, there is still a lot to be seen at night, and I suggest a visit to www.skyandtelescope.com to find out more about what is viewable in our night sky.

I want to give a big Happy Birthday wish to all the birthday folks out there- including me! I am definitely a summer baby, and my fiance is as well. His birthday is tomorrow! So happy birthday darling!

Stay cool and hydrated, and enjoy the first day of summer!
